Built by the 1st Baron Wimborne around the later part of the 19th century as a road from Canford manor to Bournemouth train station, it had two bridges crossing main roads. These were at magna road (just to the west of the present lay-by), and Ringwood road (just to the south of the Mountbatten Arms). After the road had left the heath and crossed

Wallisdown road (Bourne Bottom), it then meet Wallisdown road somewhere near its junction with the present Scott road, and continued its way to the station pretty much the same as we would today.
